“Sails of the spirit” – “Transforming the world through inclusive interaction”
From September 14 to October 3, 2019 the Mediterranean stage of the expedition “Sails of the spirit” with the support of the State atomic energy Corporation “Rosatom” will be held in Turkey, Cyprus, Egypt. The catamaran will cover the route Marmaris (Turkey) – Antalya (Turkey) – Kumkuyu (Turkey) – Tasucu (Turkey) Limassol (Cyprus) – Alexandria (Egypt) – Marmaris (Turkey). The expedition will include people with disabilities and people without disabilities from different cities and regions of Russia, Latvia, Sweden, Armenia and other countries.
The team of “Sails of the spirit” is engaged in the preparation and implementation of inclusive activities: yacht expeditions and regattas, social and cultural activities, in order to form a new positive model of interaction between people with disabilities and society.
Since 2011, inclusive (including people with disabilities) teams have been on fifteen expeditions in different parts of the world.
The goal of the “Sails of the spirit” project is the development of the inclusive yachting as an open model of manifestation of special talents and abilities of a person.
This year, the cities of the Mediterranean Sea will host Days of inclusion, which will include seminars on inclusive interaction, inclusive workshops and environmental events, flash mobs, round tables, inclusive concerts and training on inclusive sailing.
The team will be headed by Reinis Mezhulis, yachtsman of Riga yacht club “Auda”, multiple participant of the “Sails of the spirit” project. The ideological inspirer of the project and the head of the humanitarian program of the expedition is Oleg Kolpashchikov.
The expedition takes place on the Fountaine Pajot Helia 44 M Lady Sophie sailing-motor catamaran, the crew of which includes 10 people with and without disabilities.
On September 27-28, 2019, the Days of Inclusion took place in Alexandria.
On September 27, a meeting with public organizations, a round table discussion “Transforming the world through inclusive interaction”, a presentation of projects and discussion of joint prospects for interaction in the field of the formation of an inclusive culture took place in the Russian Cultural Center of Alexandria. During the events, options for possible interaction were discussed: the idea of holding the first congress of people with disabilities in the Arab countries; the opportunity for Russian specialists to teach blind people to get massage skills.
The event was attended by representatives of NGOs, Alexandria Association for Blind, Russian compatriots, representatives of the Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan, Rotary yacht club.
On September 28, inclusive sailing training sessions were held at Alexandria Marina. The event was attended by people with visual impairments, wheelchair persons, persons with mental variations, representatives of Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan, Yacht Club Of Egypt Alexandria (Y.C.E), Rotary yacht club.
As part of the Inclusion Day, a practice-oriented seminar was held (“Transforming the World through Inclusive Interaction”), interaction with blind people, wheelchair persons, and people with mental variations. Speakers were: Oleg Kolpashchikov (blind leader of the “Sails of the Spirit” project, president of the ANO “WHITE CANE”), Johannes Marcelje (yachtsman, teacher for children with mental variations, Sweden), Anna Mirkina (Prize winner of the Russian Wheelchair Dance Cup, actress and show participant in Hollywood). The event was attended by representatives of public organizations: Alexandria Association for Blind, representatives of the Rotary Club of Alexandria Cosmopolitan, Rotary yacht club, Hayatna Afdel, Village of Hope, and media. The seminar was attended by over 50 people.
The program included an inclusive concert. Local groups performed: performances of gymnasts, ballet, musical numbers. Specially invited guests – the ensemble of the blind from Cairo (Alexandria Association for Blind), artists from Kariat el amal. Anna Mirkina presented a solo and pair program with her partner Maxim Sharkov – dancing in a wheelchair, a master class for the audience.
