International Round Table Discussion “Autonomy in Actions. Barrier-Free Thinking. Inclusion as Culture”

The main subject for the round table discussion will be the process of implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the process of organization of the First World Congress of Persons with Disability that is taking place in Yekaterinburg (Russia) in September 2017.

Reports and presentations of speakers from France, Norway, Latvia, Germany, Belorussia, Kazakhstan and Russia will be devoted to the latest trends in the development of inclusive environment, the process of introduction of inclusion into different spheres of public space, raising of social activity and mobility of people with special needs, and the role of people with special needs in the process of implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities at the regional level in Russia and other countries.

It is a unique conference that will give all its participants an opportunity to discuss reports made by the vice-president of the Association Valentin Haüy and a representative of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy of Russia. There also will be reports prepared by CEOs of non-governmental organizations, specialists in inclusive higher education, representatives of the art society from different regions of Russia and Europe.

The subjects of the round table discussion can be divided into three main sections:

1. Autonomy in Actions
The role of people with special needs in the process of organization of the First World Congress of Persons with Disability in Yekaterinburg. Experience of the previous National Congresses and the current situation.

2. Barrier-Free Thinking
From accessibility to equality: development and efficient using of accessible environment. Equality and competence in inclusive projects.

3. Inclusion as Culture
Social and cultural adaptation, and other aspects of social inclusion.

Target audience of the round table discussion consists of people with special needs, social workers, specialists in education and cultural sphere, students and volunteers, representatives of NGOs, artistic intelligentsia, representatives of the authorities.

The International round table discussion “Autonomy in Actions. Barrier-Free Thinking. Inclusion as Culture” is taking place on 29 September 2015 in the Russian State Social University (4/1, Vilgelma Pika Str., Moscow). The event starts at 10 am.
