On September 10, Extrability Day was held in the city of Balkhash – the central event of the first stage of the international inclusive sailing camp "Sails of the Spirit: Extrability Movement. We Choose to Continue." The event brought together international camp participants, volunteers, and residents of the region for joint master classes, sports water activities, and creative platforms.
The main goal of the event is to demonstrate and practically apply the concept of Extrability – super-abilities and manifested skills that develop in people with and without disabilities during successful socialization and joint teamwork.
The program of Extrability Day included training platforms for sailing and rowing, sports relays, and creative master classes. Special attention was paid to mastering new forms of communication, including sign language singing. The practice of joint vessel handling and passing socio-cultural challenges showed that the inclusive approach destroys traditional stereotypes, transforming participants from observers into active leaders of processes.
The project formed an environment of equal interaction, where each participant simultaneously acted as both teacher and student.
"For me, Extrability is a deep exploration of myself in new unusual conditions and the discovery of new abilities. In this project, I discovered sign language singing, felt how emotional it is, and now I am teaching our group in Balkhash. I finally realized that a person's talents are boundless – it doesn't matter if there is a disability, how old a person is, or what nationality they are," – Olga, a trainer in round dance practices and sign language singing.
The experience of working in inclusive crews offered a fundamentally new view on socialization: inclusion ceased to be passive integration and turned into an impulse for the maximum activity of each person.
"Extrability is a person's hidden abilities, when we do not limit ourselves to templates. At the master classes, I discovered my partner Nazgul's ability to handle a sailboat: without knowing the theory, she set the pace, and at the regattas, we always win. For me, inclusion means maximum activity, through which all barriers and stereotypes are destroyed, and we move into a flow of creativity," – Zukhra, volunteer and assistant project coordinator.
The events were attended by 25 members of the international project team (including 10 participants with health limitations), as well as about 70 guests: residents of Balkhash, representatives of public organizations, and local youth.
