A team of disabled and non-disabled participants from seven countries successfully covered 700 nautical miles, promoting the philosophy of overcoming barriers and developing talents and abilities through sailing. Hundreds of residents of Antalya, Sinop and the province of Mersin joined the project as part of social and cultural events.

From October 10 to 26, 2024, the “Sails of the Spirit” expedition in the Mediterranean demonstrated the special capabilities of sailing and willpower. Participants from Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Great Britain, Germany and Latvia on two yachts sailed the route Marmaris - Antalya - Tasucu - Marmaris! The male crew of the yacht Anna Sofia and the female crew of Instant Zero took part in offshore races under the guidance of experienced captains, and also became the organizers of two large festivals, Extrability Days, in Antalya and Mersin province.
The project, implemented by ANO White Cane with the support of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom, continues its mission to develop inclusive yachting and international interaction of people with disabilities. In 2024, the theme of the project is Lifestyle.
We are convinced that working in an inclusive team of like-minded people and sailing are some of the best tools for self-improvement and improving the quality of life.

The expedition in 2024 became a significant platform for cultural exchange and strengthening international ties. For the first time, an introductory seminar with the Sails of the Spirit project was held on the Black Sea coast of Turkey, in the city of Sinop, which opened up new prospects for expanding the geography of the project. Special attention was paid to events where any local resident could get involved in sailing, regardless of any restrictions.
On October 15, in Antalya, on International White Cane Day, the expedition team, together with partners, held a festival that included a sailing regatta at the local yacht club, a visit to the Mukaddes Aksoy rehabilitation center, a festive concert and a ceremonial awarding of the winners of the competition.

On October 19, the Silifke region hosted a festival of international cooperation. A sailing regatta, an environmental campaign, Extrability master classes and a concert were held in the village of Tasucu (Mersin province), bringing together more than 500 local residents. Together with the residents of the Silifke region, Akkuyu Nuclear employees traditionally took part in the regatta. The festival became part of the annual Extrability Festival in the province of Mersin.
The “Sails of the Spirit” project demonstrates how overcoming physical and psychological barriers helps to reveal human potential. Every day of the sea passage and the camp in Silifke, the participants explored the theme “Sails of the Spirit as a Way of Life”, shared their personal stories, held trainings, seminars and master classes. For the first time in the history of the project, a demonstration of costumes from different countries and regions took place.
On October 25, the 2024 “Sails of the Spirit” expedition, like last year, ended with an offshore race along the Tusucu-Marmaris route. At the Marmaris Yacht Club, the winners and prize-winners received their well-deserved awards.

“This is my first time participating in such a project, and these are incredible emotions. Since the moment I lost both my arms, and this happened when I was 4 years old, I have constantly overcome the difficulties associated with this. But I could not have imagined before that I would one day be able to take part in a sailing expedition and even stand at the helm. But it all happened in my life.. I became part of a huge team in which I was able to prove myself as a translator and teacher for many participants. I thank everyone for the opportunity to take part in the project, and I understand that the project will become my way of life!” - shared her emotions project participant Alina Tosun, Antalya, Turkey.
The project “Sails of the Spirit” does not stop there. During the expedition, the organizers discussed the possibility of holding a sailing trip along the Sinop-Tashucu route, through the Bosphorus and Dardanelles; and organizing a sailing camp in the Silifke area.
