On December 12, 2018, The Russian (interregional) Research to Practice Conference with foreign participants “Extrability as a phenomenon of an inclusive culture” was held in Yekaterinburg.

The conference was organized by:

  • WHITE CANE NGO;
  • LLC Institute of management design and competitive strategies
  • The Institute of physical culture, sport and youth policy of the Ural Federal University;
  • Department of personnel management and psychology of the Ural Federal University;
  • Center for inclusive education of Urfu.

The conference was attended by more than 200 people, including students, representatives of science, education, health, business, public and volunteer organizations.

The scientific and practical conference consisted of two parts: plenary and inclusive workshops.

At the plenary session, the speakers ‘ reports were devoted to the following topics:

  1. Extrability as a basis for social projects.
  2. The manifestation of special talents and abilities of persons with disabilities in education and employment.
  3. The special role of people with disabilities in the development of sports and healthy lifestyles.

The speakers of the conference were representatives of non-profit organizations, business, educational and government organizations from Russia, Kenya, Germany and Israel.

As part of the practical part, inclusive workshops were held:

  1. “Walking in the dark.” The participants plunged into the “other world”. They were able to put on a blindfold to feel and hear the world around them.
  2. “Figure skating on wheelchairs.” Participants of this workshop learned how to create shapes with a wheelchair.
  3. Emotional intelligence. People with hearing disabilities feel emotions differently. They can not feel through intonation; their feelings they convey through gestures. Participants of the workshop tried to learn how to convey their emotions with gestures.
